Die Überfahrt von Prizren (Kosovo) nach Albanien verlief etwas anders als morgens am Frühstückstisch geplant. Wir wollten auf dem direkten und somit schnellsten Weg nach Theth, welches in den „Albanische Alpen“ liegt. Irgendwie haben uns aber unsere Navigationssysteme überlistet. Letztendlich fuhren wir über eine wunderschöne, abgelegene und kurvenreiche Strecke am Gebirge entlang nach Theth. Es hat länger gedauert, aber es war die extra Zeit definitive wert! Die eigentliche Grenzüberquerung war in der Nähe der kosovarischen Stadt Ponoshec. Die kurvige Straße, die „SH22“, begann auf der albanischen Seite.
The crossing from Prizren (Kosovo) to Albania was a little different from what we had planned at the breakfast table in the morning. We wanted to take the direct and thus fastest route to Theth, which lies in the "Albanian Alps". Somehow, however, our navigation systems outsmarted us. In the end, we took a beautiful, remote and winding route along the mountains to Theth. It took longer, but it was definitely worth the extra time! The actual border crossing was near the Kosovar town of Ponoshec. The winding road, the "SH22", started on the Albanian side.
Der Grund unserer Fahrt zur Stadt Theth war „nur“, um unsere erste „off-road“ Erfahrung bei vollem Gepäck auf den Motorrädern zu machen. Die südliche off-road Passage von Theth nach Shkodra führt über eine Schotterpiste mit etlichen Anstiegen und Serpentinen. Diese Strecke ist ein Abschnitt des „transeuroptrail (TET)“ in Albanien, der unter off-road Fahrern sehr bekannt ist. Allgemein ist die TET eine off-road Streckennetz in ganz Europa. The reason for our trip to the town of Theth was "only" to have our first "off-road" experience with full luggage on the motorbikes. The southern off-road passage from Theth to Shkodra leads over a gravel road with several climbs and serpentines. This route is a section of the "transeuroptrail (TET)" in Albania, which is very well known among off-road riders and is an off-road trail network all over Europe. Danach ging es direkt weiter nach Durres, eine Stadt am Meer. Letztendlich ohne den nötigen Charm, um uns zum Bleiben zu bewegen. Daher ging es weiter zu dem Campingplatz „sunset camping“, der ein wenig weiter südlich der Stadt am Meer liegt. Dort haben wir 2 Nächte verbracht, uns um unseren „blog“ gekümmert, und ein wenig relaxed.
Then we went straight on to Durres, a town by the sea. However, the city had not the necessary charm to make us stay. So we went on to the campsite "sunset camping", which is a little further south of the city by the sea. There we spent 2 nights, took care of our "blog", and relaxed a bit.
Von dort ging es ohne weitere Umwege nach Tirana, zur Hauptstadt Albaniens. Zuallererst haben wir einen Honda-Händler „imoto“ aufgesucht, der einen kleinen Ölfilm am Ölfilter von Marc seinem Motorrad begutachten sollte. Zum Glück war alles kein Drama und die Kappe am Ölfilter wurde ein wenig mit Silikon abgedichtet. Bei der Möglichkeit haben wir auch gleich unsere Ketten reinigen und mit unserem mitgebrachten Kettenfett neu „schmieren“ lassen. Vor Ort wurden die beiden Maschinen auch noch von dem off-road Schmutz befreit und gewaschen. Das ganze für 25€. ;)
From there we went without further detours to Tirana, the capital of Albania. First of all, we visited a Honda dealer "imoto" to have a small oil film on the oil filter of Marc's motorbike examined. Luckily everything was more or less “ok” and only the cap on the oil filter was sealed a little with silicone. We also had our chains cleaned and re-lubricated with the chain grease we had brought with us. On site, both machines were also cleaned of the off-road dirt and washed. The whole thing for 25€ ;)
Das alles erledigt, haben wir unsere Unterkunft in Tirana aufgesucht und eine erste fußläufige Erkundungstour in Tirana unternommen. Die Stadt gefällt! Alles ist zu Fuß erreichbar und am Abend, nachdem die brütenden Tageshitze abgeklungen ist, wird diese sehr lebendig.
All that done, we went to our accommodation in Tirana and did a first pedestrian exploration of Tirana. We liked the city! Everything is within walking distance and in the evening, after the sweltering heat of the day has subsided, it becomes very lively.
Da wir uns für 2 Tage im schönen „Apartment Jasmine“ eingebucht haben, ging es am ersten Tag mit den Motorrädern zu der Burg in Kruja. Dort hat ein gewisser Herr Skanderbeg im 15 Jahrhundert gelebt und in einigen Schlachten gegen die Osmanen, nach heutiger Sichtweise, den weitern Vormarsch der Osmanen auf den Balkan verhindert bzw. verlangsamt. Nach unserem Verständnis ist er ein Nationalheld in Albanien. Von Kruja aus ging es weiter off-road über das Gebirge zurück zur Gondelbahn nach Tirana.
As we had booked ourselves into the beautiful "Apartment Jasmine" for two days, we went to the castle in Kruja on our motorbikes on the first day. A certain Mr. Skanderbeg lived there in the 15th century and in several battles against the Ottomans, according to today's view, prevented or slowed down the Ottomans' further advance into the Balkans. According to our understanding, he is a national hero in Albania. From Kruja, we continued off-road over the mountains back to the cable car station in Tirana.
Von einem Berg bei Tirana hatten wir einen schönen Ausblick auf die Stadt. Dieses ähnelte sehr dem Ausblick auf Sarajevo in Bosnien Herzegowina.
From the upper station of the cable car, a mountain near Tirana, we had a beautiful view of the city. This was very similar to the view of Sarajevo in Bosnia Herzegovina.
Am nächsten Vormittag hatten wir eine informative „free walking tour“ in Tirana. Nach einer kleinen Stärkung ging es mit dem öffentlichen Bus zum Museum „Bunk’Art 1“. Hier, in einem der größten von rund 200,000 Bunker im Land, wurde uns die neuere Geschichte Albaniens nähergebracht. Dort haben wir auch Thilo’s Bruder mit zwei Freunden getroffen, die zu dem Zeitpunkt „normalen“ Urlaub in Albanien gemacht haben. Abends ging es zusammen zum Essen. Natürlich haben wir dann auch 1-2 Kaltgetränke zu uns genommen ;-). Letztendlich waren wir gegen 3:30 im Bett ;)
The next morning we had an informative "free walking tour" in Tirana. After a small snack, we went by public bus to the museum "Bunk'Art 1". Here, in one of the largest of around 200,000 bunkers in the country, we were introduced to Albania's more recent history. We also met Thilo's brother there with two friends who were on a "normal" holiday in Albania at the time. In the evening we together went out for dinner together. Of course, we also had 1-2 cold drinks ;-). In the end, we were back at our apartment around 3:30 ;)
Nach einem kurzen Schlaf und ein wenig verkartet ging es gegen 9 Uhr mit den Motorrädern wieder los Richtung der UNESCO Welterbe Stadt „Berat“. Dort angekommen wurde kurz ein Foto der „1.000 Fenster“ gemacht, bevor es weiter nach Permet ging. Der Weg nach Permet sollte sich um einiges anstrengender herausstellen als gedacht!
After a short night, we set off again on the motorbikes towards the UNESCO World Heritage city of Berat at around 9 am. Once there, we took a quick photo of the "1,000 windows" before continuing on to Permet. The way to Permet turned out to be much more strenuous than expected!
Es ging an die Grenzen unserer Fahrfähigkeiten. Unsere Navigation hat sich eine sehr interessante off-road Strecke für uns ausgesucht. Zum Teil sehr steile und verblockte Sektionen wechselten sich stetig ab. Zur Krönung gab es auch eine Flussüberquerung. Ich, Thilo, habe bei diesem off-road Abenteuer zweimal mein Motorrad auf die Seite abgelegt ;). Bei der Flussüberfahrt habe ich nicht die beste Route gewählt und einen größeren und glitschigen Stein mitgenommen. Aber zum Glück habe ich noch das trockene Ufer an der anderen Seite erreicht (siehe kommendes Video). Beim zweiten Mal konnte ich mich bei einer Abzweigung in einer steilen Steigung nicht rechtzeitig für einen Fahrweg entscheiden. Letztendlich hat sich das Vorderrad im Geröll quer gestellt und da lag das Motorrad wieder … aber wir haben auch diese off-road Etappe mit Bravour gemeistert ;)
It went to the limits of our off-road driving abilities. Our navigation had chosen a very interesting off-road route for us. Partly very steep and blocky sections alternated constantly. To top it off, there was also a river crossing. I, Thilo, put my motorbike on its side twice during this off-road adventure ;). At the river crossing I didn't choose the best route and took a bigger and slippery stone. Luckily I still reached the dry bank on the other side (see upcoming video). The second time, I couldn't decide in time for a driving path at a fork in a steep slope. In the end, the front wheel got crosswise in the gravel and there the bike was again on the ground... but we also mastered this off-road stage with bravura ;)
Jedenfalls sind wir kaputt, aber munter, in Permet angekommen. Dort wurde etwas gegessen, um wieder zu Kräften zu kommen. Danach ging es nochmals 50km weiter entlang des Flusses „Vjose“. Eine wunderschöne neue Asphaltstraße führte uns zu einer kleinen Grenzstation nach Griechenland. Dort angekommen, mussten wir erstmal den Grenzbeamten suchen gehen! Etwas schlaftrunken hat uns dieser über die Grenze gelassen.
In any case, we arrived in Permet exhausted, but in good spirits. There we ate to regain our strength. Then we continued for another 50km along the river "Vjose". A beautiful new asphalt road led us to a small border station to Greece. Once there, we had to go and find the border official! A bit sleepy, he let us cross the border.
An der griechischen Passstation haben wir uns von der Kontrolleurin überzeugen lassen, nach Ioannina zu fahren ;). Geschafft durch den langen Tag, waren wir endlich froh dort anzukommen und im Hotel im Bett zu liegen.
At the Greek passport station, we let the checker convince us to go to Ioannina ;). Once there and worn out by the long day, we were finally happy to fall asleep at our hotel.
Als nächstes folgt eine „Transitstrecke“ durch Griechenland. Die Idee ist, zeitig in der Türkei zu sein, um hoffentlich in Ankara unser Visum für den Iran zu erhalten.
